Fashion District

The Fashion District is the name given to the area of Downtown Toronto around the intersection of Spadina Avenue and King Street. The area is known for having stores that sell clothes straight from the manufacturers. The area derives its name from formerly being home to many clothing manufacturing businesses, but today relatively few have remained.

Present

Past
The Fashion District is surrounded by narrow tree-lined streets with ornate Victorian row houses, built between 1870 and the 1890's. These houses feature all the Victorian trimmings. The Fashion District is one of Toronto's first mixed use developments. It features condominiums, retail and offices, all in the same complex. There are some apartment, condominium and loft buildings combined with large communal studio space. It was designed to provide local artists with affordable "live and work space'.
